"Just Jonas", Sempiternal the Daredevil, Bebita
Lore
Jonas was found as a baby in a magical Wellspring tree by Raul Ramos and Perseus Valor, under mysterious circumstances on a late night security shift. After a personal crisis about his own immortality as a vampire, Percy bounced after 3 months of Jonas's life and left him solely in the care of Raul, the handyman of the mystical interdimensional circus known as La Carpa Rios.
Jonas grew up as 'Bebita' (his dead 'name', meaning baby girl) under Raul's neglectful watch. Often he was left to his own devices. He grew up timid and quiet, the 'little sister' of the acts in La Carpa. At 13 years old, he read a worn out copy of The Giver and resonated with the main character so much he realized he was trans and adopted the name Jonas.
After a horrific accident at the hands of Raul's neglectfulness, Jonas passed away for the first time at the age of 14 years old. He was sent to the dimension he dubbed The Crossroads (a purgatory-like space reflecting a train station in the desert), and met his spirit guide, Blu, for the first time. Blu appeared as various different animals, but was always solid black with white eyes, and did not speak directly to him with words.
Realizing his "gift" (as Raul referred to it, he saw it more as a curse), Jonas started as his own act in La Carpa Rios. Sempiternal the Daredevil was the headline act for years after; attracting mortals and Otherworlders alike to see the boy who wouldn't die. He slowly became a star in his own right in the Otherworld.
As he grew older, Raul introduced him to more unsavory types, rich mortals and Otherworlders who would pay unholy amounts of money to torture an immortal. Being young, Jonas agreed to these 'side gigs', and became extremely desensitized to his own death(s), bodily harm, and mental wellbeing. Having experienced any way a person could perish, death slowly became an escape for him. A release of sorts, as he saw it had no serious long term consequences. (Other than his mental health).
Raul perished at the hands of his own foolishness (a rising gambling debt) when Jonas was 17. For two more years after, he performed in La Carpa, until his own loneliness pushed him to ask questions about who he really was and where he came from. Raul had never shared the details of the night he was found, other than the name of the other person who had been there. Perseus Valor. We start Jonas's story with him on the heels of the elusive vampire, in search of who he is (despite cryptic advice from a fortune teller to not do this exact thing he was hellbent on doing).
