Cass, Cassius Christopher, The Posterboy for Hunterkind
Lore
Born to parents already split up; Cass spent the school year in Boston with his affluent and posh mother, Celeste Valor, and summers in Eastern Kentucky with his famous hunter father, Jesse Huxley. Cass grew up with immense privilege and love from his family, but was coddled-- much to his own chagrin. He often dreamed of being a superhero like the ones he’d read about, or a famous hunter like his father, Jesse.
Starting his training at the age of 13 like all traditional hunters do, Cass’s soul weapon started out as nothing more than a stick. Over the next five years, he worked to perfect his craft as a hunter, develop his weapon, and was poised to take over the First Elder position of Guild 13 when his father eventually retired-- despite his mother’s insistence that he at least try college first before making a decision on his career.
Cass spent his summers in Windrop, Kentucky, with the company of his best friend, Lonnie Elliot, the two of them lovingly dubbed the twin terrors of Windrop Ridge. Being the very first person to jump Mainecoon Gap (in his brand new car, destroying the suspension), the reason two separate teachers retired early, and the winner of the Kentucky state fair hot dog eating competition three years running, Cass searched for any kind of excitement in his life he could get.
As he neared 18, Cass expected to be given the respect that most other hunters got at that age, along with the responsibility of harder and more dangerous missions. Despite his expectations, it seemed as if both of his parents were hellbent on coddling him out of his true ambition in life-- to save those who could not save themselves. Though idealistic and naive, Cass believed it was his purpose.
Through the events of the prequel of the Otherworld trilogy, Mountain Legacies Cass learned that everything was not as it seemed, and sometimes monsters were the very people who looked back at you in the mirror. (No spoilers!)
Picking up Cass’s story in the second installment of the trilogy, he is poised as ‘The Posterboy of Hunterkind’, in a propaganda peace campaign by The Association of the Guilds, and travels to various Otherworld/Hunter conferences as a key speaker and advocate for interspecies peace. (Though he sometimes does not take this newfound responsibility seriously!)
